Dear Bishops of Aotearoa,
Tena koutou! I write to ask your permission and blessing upon, an initiative which has emerged from the people of Our Lady of Fatima Parish here in Meadowbank: “Rosary Aotearoa”. We propose that the people of our land be invited to gather on the first Sunday of October this year, October 7th, at 3pm, to pray the Rosary in honour of Our Lady and to ask her blessing upon our nation.
Earlier this year, thousands of Catholics in Britain gathered for “Rosary on the Coast”, with groups praying the Rosary in over 400 different places. We believe we can do something similar here in New Zealand, and that there would be immense spiritual benefits for our people.
I have spoken with Bishop Pat and he has given his approval for this to happen in the Auckland Diocese – and we would like to see the whole country involved.
Resources, both digital and hard copy, will be produced to inform people and encourage them to participate. We see each parish being invited to appoint a coordinator who will work with the parish priest / lay pastoral leader to bring it to fruition. If each parish had a group people praying the Rosary that day, what a great thing that would be.
I would like to take the opportunity to come and talk with you about this, and film a short encouraging comment from you, inviting your people to take part.
There will be no cost involved to your diocese or parishes.
Thank you for your consideration of this request.
Yours in Christ
(Fr) Samuel Pulanco
